Looking for other options? We are always looking for help! Can you help us call references? How about match-making dogs to applicants?

SOHO is active at some events in Richmond, Harrisonburg, and Roanoke, and are looking to reach out to new places. As such, we ALWAYS need local volunteers to help introduce us to their cities and help us expand our reach. Can you help us staff a booth? If you're interested in volunteering, please click the button below and fill out our volunteer form.

As we pull dogs from far-flung shelters all over the Mid-South, we are always looking for transport partners to help us transport dogs safely from shelters to their foster homes. All you need to volunteer for transporting is a safe driving record and a commitment to help dogs!

We try to keep transports to no more than one hour in one direction, for a two-hour transport. Often, you may be meeting other volunteers to hand your pup off to the next leg of his or her journey. Interested in helping us transport pups to safety? We can use your help! Please click on the button below and it will take you to our volunteer form.

Looking for other options? We accept donations! We are a 501c3 non-profit registered in the state of Virginia, and we are always in need of donations, both material and monetary, to help care for our dogs. 100% of your donation goes towards our mission and the dogs in our care.

This is where the "Outreach" part of our name comes from. We are committed to working in our communities to help stop pet overpopulation, spread of disease, and also to help people keep their pets. Whether that's by getting them in touch with spay and neuter resources, training resources, or maybe giving out enough pet food to make it to the next payday, we try to do it.

Our community outreach program is centered in rural, low-income areas that may not have the services that a larger city has. With a group of volunteers, we seek out clients in those areas that are willing to let us help. Our volunteers distribute bags of food, leashes and collars, and try to help residents keep their animals and improve their care.

This type of community impact has been shown to not only help pet-retention rates, but also improve community education about companion animals and make our community a better place to live. If you are interested in helping with our community outreach outings, please click the link below to volunteer.

Fostering is an incredibly important part of our rescue - without it, we wouldn't be able to save many dogs! SOHO provides medical care and reimburses fosters for any approved expenses - all you need to add is love!

We ask that fosters care for the dogs as if the dog were their own and help us determine which family is best for their foster dog. We have volunteers and board members that will provide you with nearly round-the-clock support if needed. Fostering commitments are generally 2-3 weeks. If you're interested in fostering with us, please click on the link below and join our SOHO Family!
